ACCOMPLISHMENTS/ACTIVITIES 2014-2015

MAY 2014: Post and Auxiliary members put new flags on the graves of 300 veterans lying in the Town of Warren's historic cemeteries. The Boy Scouts put another 800 flags on veterans lying in the new cemeteries (Catholic cemeteries)...Our members also took part in Memorial Day commemorations in Barrington, Bristol and Warren.

JUNE: The Post and Auxiliary, assisted by the Warren Association of Vietnam Veterans, the Kickemuit Grange and Boy Scout Troop 25, retired more than 3,000 torn and tattered flags -- at our annual Flag Day ceremony. A large crowd took part, including a visitor from Scotland who saw an announcement in the local paper....We also took 30 veterans from the Rhode Island Veterans Home to Armed Forces Night, at the Pawtucket Red Sox.

JULY 2014: The rains came on our Annual Outing at Colt State Park. A total of 20 Legionnaires and Auxiliary members enjoyed the wet day by the water. We also hosted 4 residents of the Rhode Island Veterans Home. Typically, we have about 65 veterans and their family members.

NOVEMBER: We will join the Auxiliary in organizing, preparing and helping to deliver 219 meals on Thanksgiving Day to the homebound, elderly, needy in Barrington, Bristol, Warren, Riverside and Swansea….The Post and Auxiliary conducted the Town of Warren’sannual VeteransDay commemoration.

Also in November, the Post received a state grant for $1,500 to continue our Veterans History Project...We conduct video interviews in our Post Home with war-time veterans about their combat experiences...A copy goes to the Library of Congress for use by historians and scholars; another goes to our archives, and a third copy goes to the veteran and his/her family...We are sharing the grant, obtained through the office of state Rep. Jan Malik, with the Warren Association of Vietnam Veterans, which started the project....Another $1,500 grant was received through the office of state Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. for improvements to Warren's Veterans Honor Roll.

DECEMBER: The Post will participate in the Auxiliary’s “Secret Santa” project, which provided toys and clothes to more that 100 needy children at Christmas….We will join the Auxiliary in organizing, preparing and helping to deliver meals on Christmas Day to the needy, homebound and elderly in Barrington, Bristol, Warren, Swansea and Riverside...



ON-GOING: We also support the projects of the American Legion/Department of Rhode Island (state headquarters)…This support includea funding to send a local boy to Boys Statewhere soon-to-be high school seniors learn the workings of the state and federal governments…The Auxiliary funds a girl to Girls State…We also support the Department’s Children & Youth Foundation, which provides financial help to homes in Rhode Island for abused children. ..


SERVICE: Our Service Officers make repeated visits to Post members who are  homebound or in hospitals or nursing homes.
